Privacy
CROW Cards is run by Princeton HCI. We collect as little as we can. This page says what we keep, who can see it, how tou can have it removed. You can send any questions to: crowcards@princeton.edu.
What we keep
- Your card. What you write in the editor is saved on our server as you go. A draft is private: only someone with its ID and secret can open it. When you publish, the version you publish becomes public, as much of it as the view mode you chose shows. We keep each published version privately in full, so you can publish again or change the view mode.
- Your contact email, which publishing asks for. Only the CROW team sees it, to contact you about your card if an issue comes up. It's never shown publicly or shared.
- Your name and organization, if you add them. They're shown on your card only if you choose to show them.
- Reports. If you report a card, we keep the reason, anything you write, and your email if you give one. Only the CROW team sees them.
What we don't collect
We don't collect accounts. There are no analytics, no advertising, no tracking cookies. We don't sell or share what you write.
Also needed to run the site
- Google Cloud (Firebase) hosts the site and its database. Like any web host, it sees each visit's network address, and keeps standard logs for a limited time.
- To stop abuse, we count how many cards come from each network per hour. We store only a scrambled code in place of the address, and delete it within a day.
- Adobe Fonts provides the site's typefaces, so Adobe sees each page load.
- During set up, if you choose "Fill in from this link", the site reads your community's server from your own browser. We don't see the link's contents unless you fill them into your card.
- Your browser keeps your card's ID and secret, only for as long as you choose ("Remember this card"), and your contact email only if you select that. By the way, we do not know your card secret and cannot retrieve it for you, so make sure to keep it safe.
How long
Cards are kept until you delete them or ask us to. Unpublishing removes the public card. "Unpublish and delete history" also deletes its published versions.
Deleting your card or email
Write to crowcards@princeton.edu with your card's ID, from the contact email on the card if it has one. Within 90 days, we'll delete the card, its versions and your email.
Research
We won't use your card for research without asking. Right now, the beta is not a research study. Later, we may ask if we can collect research data from workshops, from an opt-in feature, and from cards contributed to the Library.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, we'll say so here, with the date.
